Terms Entered in Search Tools
A name or place entered in a search box is delivered to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider handles the request and supplies its results. Wirt County Criminal History does not retain or create a local log of the search terms entered there.
Email and Contact Messages
When you email or otherwise send a message, the communication may be kept long enough to review it and respond. It is not shared beyond the people handling the message unless disclosure is required by law or a valid legal demand.
Information Collected Automatically
Ordinary server and analytics logs may record technical information when a page loads. That information can include:
- The internet protocol address used for the visit
- The browser name and version
- The operating system and type of device
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring website, when one is available
- The date and time associated with each request
Analytics and Cookies
Small cookie files and analytics services help measure site traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Browser controls can refuse or remove cookies. Blocking them may change the way some site functions operate.
How Information Is Used
Information collected through normal site operations may be used for the following purposes:
- Operating the website and maintaining acceptable page speed
- Passing a search request to the appropriate outside provider
- Measuring which Wirt County resources visitors use
- Diagnosing errors, abuse, and other technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Stored Criminal Records
Wirt County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records maintained by the Wirt County Sheriff, Wirt Magistrate and Circuit Courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a dossier about another person. This operation is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Outside Search Providers
Other companies operate the search tools embedded on the site. Once information is submitted through one of those tools, the provider's privacy terms govern its processing, storage, and disclosure. Those practices are outside this site's control. Review the applicable provider policy before entering a query.
External Website Links
Links may lead to the Wirt County Sheriff's office, West Virginia court portals, the State Police, other government agencies, legal-help resources, or outside search services. A destination website applies its own privacy policy after you leave this site. Check that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising services may also use their own technologies to observe activity across different websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the advertising provider's systems.
Parties That May Receive Data
Personal information is not sold. Limited information may be provided to:
- A search provider that processes a query you submit
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and site performance
- Advertising networks responsible for ads displayed here
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under valid legal authority
Information Security
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to information within this site's control. No internet service or storage method can guarantee absolute protection, however. Security measures reduce risk but cannot promise that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If information from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its prompt removal.
Your Privacy Choices
Rights depend on the law that applies where you live and on the type of record involved. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Chapter 29B, Article 1, governs access to public records held by state and local public bodies. It does not turn this private reference site into a public agency. Public dissemination from the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry is separately governed by W. Va. Code ยง15-12-5. Subject to applicable law and whether information is actually held here, you may:
- Ask what personal information is maintained about you
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate
- Ask for deletion when the law and retention needs permit it
- Use available controls to decline certain processing
